Remove Yourself From a Waiting List
Psychology Course Waiting List
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why does the Psychology Department have waiting lists?
Every semester the Psychology Department offers a limited number of seats in a limited number of classes. Unfortunately with 1400 Psychology majors and some unknown number of Psychology minors, seats in theses classes fill up quickly. Often all the seats in some Psychology classes are taken by the time sophomores have the opportunity to register. In the interest of fairness and equity, the Psychology Department has developed a waiting list procedure.

2. What does "You must add this class through the department" mean?
When a class has reached it's maximum enrollment, the class is blocked to phone and web registration from that point forward and the waiting list begins. Students who try to register for the class over RSVP and WebReg will be given the message, "You must add this class through the department". This message is designed to direct students to the waiting list website. There is no other way to register for a psychology course once it is full.

3. Once I'm on the waiting list, what do I do?
Being on a waiting list does not guarantee you a seat in the class!
To be sure that you are registered for something, you should register for at least one "back-up class" in case the instructor of the class for which you are waiting cannot sign you in. Besides this, there is nothing to do until the first day of class. Do not contact the instructor or the department office.
You must take an add form to the first day of class to see if you are high enough on the list to be signed in with the instructor's signature. No one will call you to tell you you've been added.

4. What if I am no longer interested in registering for the class?
Please remove yourself from the waiting list if you have no intention of going the first day to see if you can be added.

5. Once I'm on the waiting list, what are my chances of being signed in the first day?
It is impossible to say. The number of students signed in on the first day will depend upon the room capacity, the number of students who have dropped their registration from the class, and the judgement of the instructor.

6. Will I get priority if I'm a graduating senior?
Instructors will sign students in to the class based on the order on the waiting list, regardless of class standing. You will NOT get priority because you are a graduating senior. Seniors receive priority advising and registration privileges allowing them every opportunity to register for the classes they need to fulfill graduation requirements.

7. What if someone drop his or her registration from the course?
If a student drops their registration from a Psychology course, that "open seat" will be reserved for someone to be signed in from the waiting list on the first day of class.

8. If the instructor signs me in on the first day, what do I do?
To actually register for the course, you'll need to take the signed add form and a picture ID to Bear Down Gym RM 9. Here the registrar's office staff will take a copy of your add form and give you a copy as a receipt. To verify that you have been registered, you will want to check your status via Student Link after a couple of days.

9. What if the instructor does not sign me in?
You will need to plan for this possibility by registering for a "back up class". For assistance, you can contact the Psychology Advising Center in the Psychology Bldg. RM 320, 621-7439, arezu@u.arizona.edu. Be aware that classes in other departments may not use a waiting list procedure to add students the first day.

10. When can I begin to access the waiting lists?
Each section of each Psychology course will have a waiting list. The waiting list for each course section becomes active as soon as the class hits its maximum enrollment. If this happens during priority registration, the course section waiting list will become active by noon the Monday after the weekend the class fills up. Otherwise the course section waiting list will become active by noon the day after the class fills up.

11. If the list I want is full, what do I do?
Every class is going to have a maximum number for it's waiting list. The smaller classes are going to have a lower waiting list limit. If the class is showing up on the list of waiting lists as "FULL" this means it has the maximum number of students on it's waiting list. If someone removes his or her self from the waiting list, the waiting list will re-open, so you may want to check back later on. You may wish to find another class for which to register. You may wish to select another waiting list.

12. What if the class I want does not have a waiting list?
There are two possibilities in this case. 1) If the course is still available for registration, the waiting list will not be active until the course fills up. 2) Some course instructors have opted to not have a waiting list for their course at all. In this case, you should definitely select another course for which to register or select another course that has an open waiting list.
