Finding new public organization websites

This page contains URLs to lists of government websites. If you find a good source not mentioned here, please let us know.

Remember:  CyPRG is compiling the world's most complete database of public organizations!

This excellent resource is our main reference site.  Entries in CyPRG database should use this site as the model for naming and for initial assessment of hierarchy.

Transferring URLs and text from "Governments on the Web" website into coding spreadsheet

If the list is short, simply drag URL from web page into spreadsheet.

If list is long:

1)  With the "Governments on the Web" listing of government organizations on your screen in Netscape, go to "View" then "Page Source," which will show you the HTML code for that page.

2)  Copy the text that contains the organization URLs and the tags giving agency names.  There will be a lot of unimportant stuff at the top of the file, so be sure to scroll down to the good part.

3)  Paste into a word processing program, strip out extraneous coding, and split the URLs from the agency names by inserting tab marks between the two.  This can be done by doing a global search and replace on the text string that divides them, which probably looks something like:  /">

4)  Change the text into a table, so you have the URLs in one column, and the organization names in the other column.

5) Copy and paste the columns into the spreadsheet, and they are ready to code.
