Travel Grants for the Professional Development of Women Faculty and Academic Professionals

AWF will fund two travel grants up to a maximum of $500 each for faculty and academic professionals in fall 2007.

To qualify for the travel grant, the applicant must have turned in an AWF membership form and dues for the academic year. The major intent of this award is to help further the professional development of women in faculty or academic professional positions regardless of academic area. Preference will be given to junior women. 

Application deadline is: October 26th 2007 by noon

Applicants may receive only one grant in any five year period.  Recipients of the award may reapply in the fifth year after receiving the award.

Funds may be used for travel any time in the 12-month period from October 26, 2007 through October 25, 2008.. Funds will be released no more than two months prior to the proposed departure date. There is no restriction on the use of the grant for international travel. Upon returning, recipients of the AWF Travel Grant are asked to submit a letter to the AWF Board detailing the project and how the funds were used.

The application should include 3 copies of the following: 

  1. Application Cover Page (see below) 
  2. A one-to-two page statement that contains the following: 
    • an explanation of why funds are being requested and how the travel will benefit the applicant's career*; 
    • a description of the event (meeting, research, residency, exhibit, etc.) for which travel funds will be used, including dates and location(s);
    • total estimated travel budget; 
    • the availability of other funding for this travel
    • a listing of other professional travel completed by the applicant in the preceding 12 months, as well as professional travel that is anticipated in the following 6 months, with the source of funding for each;
    • a description of current funded projects and pending projects, including duration and amount of funding; 
  3. A copy of the presentation abstract(s), if applicable; 
  4. Current curriculum vitae which includes service to the University: department or university committees and advising responsibilities. 

*NOTE: Bold items are used as key criteria in the choice of the awardee.  Applicants are advised to address these clearly in the application.

AWF members may receive only one travel grant.  Decisions will be made by an ad hoc committee appointed by the AWF executive board.
